After you book your stay
Take out travel insurance
Remember to take out your own travel insurance policy as soon as possible after booking and before travelling to join us. Check that it will cover you for any delays or problems with flights or unforeseen personal emergencies that might give rise to the need for a late cancellation.
Complete your health questionnaire and information form
One of our reception team will send you a health questionnaire and an information form a few weeks before you are due to arrive. Please complete and return these before you arrive.
Remember to send us your flight (or travel) arrangements in advance, so that we have plenty of time to arrange your transfers.
Check your travel details
Make sure you have checked in and sorted your boarding pass. Check if there are any visa requirements required for travel to Spain from your home country. We strongly recommend that you read your airlines travel advice before travelling. Face coverings are currently obligatory on public or shared transport and in areas where social distancing is not possible, so you will need to make sure you have some for travelling. Please also check if you need to submit information about where you are staying – this can help to speed up the arrivals process at the airport.
If you are travelling by car, check the driving directions to the retreat on the location page.
One week before you leave home
Modify your diet
The retreat provides all your food and/or juices during your stay. We offer a plant-based (vegan) diet at the retreat, which can be a change for many of our guests. We do not serve caffeine or alcohol and sugar comes in its natural form (in fruit, not processed). Sometimes, a change in diet can lead to symptoms like headaches, tiredness, grumpiness or nausea. To minimise the chance of these symptoms we recommend that you cut out (or at least reduce) the amount of caffeine, chocolate, sugar (including sugary or energy drinks), tobacco and alcohol you consume. If you would like to learn more about the detox process, we suggest you read our blog article: detox – what is it and how does it work?
We also suggest you increase your fluid intake significantly in the days running up to your retreat – drink lots of water! This helps to ensure you are fully hydrated when you arrive, to help you feel at your best.
Consider booking a treatment
Take your relaxation and rejuvenation to the next level during one of our holistic treatment and therapy sessions. You can choose from a wide range of treatments such as deep tissue massage, sports massage, relaxing massage, Reiki, magnetic therapy, and many more! Massage can be a wonderful way to help your body relax and feel rejuvenated. Learn more about the benefits of massage for relaxation. A list of available treatments can be found on the treatments page. Please contact our reception team who will be happy to arrange this for you.
Life and success coaching, or Transformational Coaching with John Brant, co-owner of La Crisalida Retreats and master trainer of NLP is also available. John is a qualified life coach who is passionate about helping others to find success on their own inspired path. Life coaching can be a fantastic tool if you need to move on from chronic stress, resentment, anxiety or depression or just want to get clear on how to move forward successfully with your life. Day before you leave home
What to pack
Check the travel mantra – tickets, passport, money! You will need a selection of clothes, including exercise gear (something you can move freely in – shorts, jogging pants, tops). A good pair of trainers, plus socks, for walking are needed (or walking shoes) and something to wear around the pool. Pack your swim wear, shorts, t-shirts and something to wander around in. We suggest you include a cardigan or jumper even in early/late summer. Sunglasses and a sun hat are a good idea for around the pool and on the walks, as is sunscreen. Summer is hot! If you are coming early or late in the year, you will also need warmer clothes (jumper/sweatshirts, jackets, long trousers), as the temperature can dip in the winter, particularly early morning or at night. You might also consider bringing a rain jacket, for the occasional rain showers that happen.
Please remember to pack face coverings. Sanitising gel is widely available and provided in many public areas like airports, shops or cafes, however you might consider packing some in your hand-baggage. Remember to bring a sufficient supply of any medication that you are taking. There are mosquitos in the area during summer months, so consider packing some insect repellent or bite cream, or you can buy some at the retreat when you arrive.
Pack a book or something you would love to read. A book exchange is available at the retreat. We also have a selection of books and DVDs to borrow, on topics related to health, nutrition, yoga, mindset, personal development and more.
What you do not need to pack
We supply all the equipment that you need. When you arrive we will give you your own yoga equipment (mat, blocks, blankets and strap), to use during your stay. You are of course welcome to bring your personal yoga mat with you, if you prefer. All other activity equipment, like rebounders, will be provided.
Bath towels and pool towels are also provided. All apartments contain a hairdryer, an iron and an ironing board. Hot water bottles are available at reception. You can purchase La Crisalida branded water bottles, baseball caps, walking bags and other goodies while you’re here.
Getting to the retreat
Arriving into Alicante airport
Due to covid-19, there have been some changes made to arrivals into Alicante airport. To our knowledge, at present the Spanish government request that you provide information about where you are staying during your time in Spain. Some airlines are making this available in advance, which will speed up your arrival time at the airport – we recommend that you check with your airline. If you need it, our address is:
La Crisalida Retreats, Avenida San Marc, 9, Playa del Albir, Alicante, 03581. The phone number for main reception is: 0034 966 865 242
Please note, due to covid-19 there might be some delays in arrivals as additional checks are being made. This might include temperature checks. Please wear your face covering at the airport.
About your transfer
We’ve partnered with a local company called Beni Connect who operate a shuttle bus service. They guarantee no more than four stops before arrival at La Crisalida – please note, due to the current challenges with covid-19 on rare occasions there might be 5 or 6 stops. So long as you have informed us in advance of your flight times, the transfer company will be expecting you. If your flight is delayed, they will either wait or make sure there is another transfer for you (depending upon how long your flight is delayed). Instructions on how to collect your transfer at Alicante airport is available on our location page. You can also collect the transfer at Alicante train station. We will notify you of your collection time for the return transfer during your stay.
When you arrive at the retreat
Upon arrival you will need to present your photo ID (passport, identity card) at reception for check-in. If you can, please bring a photocopy with you. There will be a form to sign and a consent form.
Your apartment will be available from 2pm, where possible we aim to get it ready for you before this. Changing facilities and luggage storage are available if you arrive earlier than this, and you are welcome to join in with the activity programme from the moment you arrive. Alternatively, you can kick-back and relax on a sunbed next to the pool. Food will be available – we save you a plate. We will also give you a copy of the activity programme.
Welcome tour and chat
We will give you a welcome to help you settle in with ease and familiarise yourself with our activities, accommodation and facilities.
Within 24 hours of arrival you will join our welcome chat, which takes place every day to explain how to get the most out of your La Crisalida retreat experience and to give you the opportunity to ask one of our health and wellbeing mentors any questions. You’ll also have the opportunity to meet other wonderful guests from all parts of the world participating in the retreat experience. Many of our guests depart La Crisalida having made new friends. You’ll also be able to spend time with our experienced mentor team who are on hand to give you the support and tools you need to personalise and enhance your retreat experience.
During your stay
Enjoy the activities
We offer a full activity programme, every day of the week. We will give you a copy of it when you arrive and a new one is available every Sunday. We are not a bootcamp, so you can choose to participate in one of the varied activities, or simply relax next to one of our two outdoor pools.
Health and safety – covid-19
The health and wellbeing of our guests and staff is our priority, so we’ve made a number of changes in response to the covid-19 pandemic, to give you added peace of mind, whilst still offering you the same relaxing and rejuvenating La Crisalida retreat experience.
We follow social distancing guidelines in communal and guest areas, and we’ve added sanitising gel in public and guest areas. There’s also enhanced cleaning and disinfecting procedures in place throughout the retreat. Our carefully planned activity schedule will continue to offer the full range of activities. If necessary (if guests numbers are high), we could introduce a staggered activity schedule or pre-booking may be required during busy times. More detailed information is available on our special coronavirus covid-19 page.
Local shops and pharmacies
We are located in quiet residential area in a small seaside town. There are a number of shops and pharmacies in the vicinity, so if you do forget to pack something, we are sure you will find everything you need. Contactless payment is currently preferred by many local shops.
If you decide to leave the retreat centre and enjoy our local area, please note that in Spain it is currently mandatory to wear face coverings in public spaces when it’s difficult to maintain 1.5 metres social distancing.
Visit the beach and local area
Our wonderful location offers plenty to explore and enjoy all within a short walking distance from the retreat centre. We’re situated a pleasant 15-minute walk away from a delightful blue flag beach, Playa de Racó de l’Albir. Continue along the beach promenade until delightful Altea, well known for its blue-domed church and beautiful old town.
The centre of Albir can be reached within 5 minutes from the retreat by foot and offers boutique style shopping and a weekly market. Surrounding Albir is the beautiful Sierra Helada, a protected nature reserve which is fantastic to explore by foot. In fact, a number of our guided walks lead you through this beautiful environment giving you the opportunity to reconnect with nature and yourself. We can provide you with information on local buses or arrange a taxi if you wish to explore further afield.
We hope that you find our tips useful and help you prepare for your La Crisalida retreat experience. Please feel free to contact our reception team if you have any questions or if you would like any further information.
