Spinach is renowned for its strength building properties, which is why we called this spinach juice recipe “Strength Builder”! Our theme this month is finding your voice, so we hope this juice gives you the strength to speak out your truth.
This juice is a lovely deep green colour, due to the spinach, and is creamy, due to the courgette. Spinach is a good leafy green veggie to include in your diet on a regular basis and it makes a great addition to any juice. It´s a source of iron and calcium, both of which is needed by the body to build strength. Fresh spinach also contains good quantities of Vitamin C, vitamin A (from beta-carotene) and vitamin K, which keep our heart healthy, blood flowing and immune system in tiptop condition. The other added benefit of spinach is it´s high nitrate content – nitrates help to build muscle and build strength.
Juicing tip! If you are using a centrifugal juicer (one that spins – read more in our juicing article, you need to use large leaf spinach to get the best juicing results. If only small (baby) leaf spinach is available, then you can either make a spinach “parcel” (see below) or blend the spinach into your juice, using a hand blender or mixer.
How to make a spinach “parcel” for juicing: take a large lettuce leaf and place all the spinach leaves inside. Fold the edges of the lettuce leaves together so that it makes a parcel shape, and put the whole parcel into your juicer. This should increase the volume of juice you get from the spinach.
Strength builder: spinach juice recipe
Large handful spinach (or kale)
1 large courgette
½ stick celery
2cm unwaxed lemon
(Optional extra: large lettuce leaf)
Wash all the vegetables and fruit beneath cold running water. Make sure you give the spinach a very thorough wash, as there is nothing worse than finding grit and dirt in your juice! Take any labels off the pear and remove the outer skin from the lemon if you are using a waxed variety. Create your spinach “parcel” and then put all the ingredients through your juicer.
Wash your juicer and enjoy your juice!
