Supercharged green clean kale juice recipe

Supercharged green clean kale juice recipe

We love this super green kale juice first thing on a morning for breakfast! Kale is low in calories, whilst being high in protein and fibre. Combine kale with spinach and broccoli and you have a mighty powerhouse of a juice! Packed full of vitamins and minerals including vitamins A and C, plus folate, potassium and calcium. Kale and spinach also contain good levels of vitamin K – the vitamin responsible for helping your blood to clot (which prevents excessive bleeding) as well as healthy bone functioning. So, if you are on some blood thinning medications, check with your medical practitioner first before consuming too much of these leafy green veggies.

We add avocado to make it extra thick and creamy, but you can easily drink it without. By excluding the avocado the calorie count will drop down to 186, but remember, adding avocado brings lots of essential fatty acids and other nutrients to the body.

Green clean kale juice recipe

Serves: 1

Ingredients

Handful of kale
Handful of spinach
2cm broccoli stem
1 courgette
2cm unwaxed lemon
1/3 avocado

Method

Wash all the ingredients beneath cold running water. Remember to wash the stem areas of the kale and spinach very well to get rid of any remaining dirt. You can leave the skin of the lemon on (if it is unwaxed) however if the lemon skin is particularly thick (or if you can only buy waxed lemons) trim the outer layer off, leaving behind the white pith.

Create a “sandwich” for the leaves (cut the courgette into smaller pieces and put a handful of spinach between two courgette slices) and push through your juicer. (Creating this “sandwich” can help to increase the amount of juice you get from the green leaves). If you only have small salad spinach leaves then we think it´s best to blend them, rather than put them through your juicer. (A centrifugal juicer tends to spit out the small spinach leaves into the pulp waste bag and gives off very little juice).

Pour the juice into your blender and add the avocado. Blend for 30 to 60 seconds. Pour into a glass, wash your juicer and blender, then enjoy your juice.

Too green?

If this juice seems too green, or if you find it challenging to drink, then add an apple (or pear) to make it a little sweeter. Cut down the quantity of courgette by half and replace with an apple (or pear).
