Enjoy our light and fruity Summer berry juice recipe

The warmth of the summer months brings an abundance of fruit into the garden and, in particular, some lovely summer berries. Whilst we love snacking on berries and other fruit here at the retreat, they are also great to add into a freshly made juice. This month I’m sharing one of our popular berry juice recipes, which I’ve called Fruit bowl lunch. As you might guess from its name, we serve this juice on a lunch time. The ingredients not only include lovely summer berries, but also other fruit, plus a carrot for an added bonus. Kids, big and small will love this juice!

As Summer berries don’t tend to produce much juice when you use a centrifugal juicer, we prefer to juice the main ingredients and then blend in the berries, using a hand-blender. They turn the juice such a lovely bright colour.

Cost-saving tip: Now is a great time of year to stock up on summer berries whilst they are so abundant. Buy in bulk when the price is good, remove any stalks, cut large strawberries in half and pop them into a plastic bag (add a date) into your freezer.

You can also use frozen berries instead. Simply take them out of the freezer five or ten minutes before you want to make your juice, to allow them to soften, then blend them into the juice. Using frozen berries can help to reduce the temperature of the juice, making it lovely and cool!

Juicing tip: Remember to remove all the labels from the fruit – if not, it gums up your juicer! There is no need to remove the skin from your kiwi, just pop the whole thing in.

Berry juice recipe: Fruit Bowl Lunch

Serves: 1
Calories: 252

1 apple
1 pear
1 carrot
2 cm unwaxed lemon
1 kiwi
BLEND: Handful berries

Wash all of your ingredients beneath cold running water. There’s no need to peel the fruit, carrot or kiwi – use them as they are. Put these items through your juicer. Blend in the berries using a hand-blender.

Remember to wash your juicer immediately after using it, so that the bits from the fruit and veggies do not harden and stick.

Then enjoy your juice!

La Crisalida juice detox retreat

Juicing is a popular part of the holistic programme here at La Crisalida Retreats. Many of our guests opt for a three-day juice detox, drinking only freshly prepare fruit and vegetable juices. Some guests want to juice for a longer period, like one- week or 10 days. Others choose to enjoy a juice for breakfast then select from the plant-based dishes at lunch and dinner. Juicing has many health benefits, delivering high levels of nutrients into your body and giving the digestive system a rest. Read more about a juice detox retreat at La Crisalida here.
